Our latest Camp Wavelength live video is now up on Exclaim! TV, and it’s a banger: Moon King rocked out hard on the opening night of our Toronto Island festival this past August, and had the crowd bopping to their power-dream-pop. Here’s what Exclaim! had to say:
Daniel Benjamin and Maddy Wilde form the boisterous Toronto-based shoegaze-pop duo Moon King. Following the 2013 release of their Obsession I and Obsession II EPs through Fucked Up mastermind Mike Haliechuk’s One Big Silence imprint, they played more than 100 gigs within the year. On this extensive trek they strengthened their live chops and polished their sound, which shaped their first LP, Secret Life. A few months after their release show at Toronto’s Smiling Buddha in April, we caught up with Moon King at Artscape Gibraltar Point during Camp Wavelength to capture a performance for Exclaim! TV.
Returning to Obsession II, Moon King delivered a rousing rendition of the EP cut “Appel.” Watch Benjamin and Wilde’s impassioned vocals soar over layers of powerful noise, provided in part by a backing band, below.
