Winter Fest 2025 is fast approaching and we’re so excited to share three nights of incredible music with you! As part of our 25th anniversary celebration, we’re continuing to chat with artists who’ve become an integral part of our Wavelength family.
We immediately fell in love with experimental-pop band Essie Watts after their set at the Monarch last year. Before they grace us with their new-wave tinged sounds on Night 2 of Winter Fest, we talked to the band about what Wavelength’s 25th anniversary means to them.
WL: In three words, can you describe the Wavelength experience to someone who’s never been to a show?
Discovering NEW music.
WL: What is a ritual or a must-have drink/snack you need before you play a show?
Jess always makes everyone take a deep breath together before going on stage (does that count as a snack??).
WL: Wavelength has been putting on shows for 25 years. What does the organization’s history mean to you as an artist? How does it feel to be a part of that history?
It feels like an honour! We have had some of the best experiences playing or attending Wavelength shows. The organization is professional, supportive and attentive to its artists and we appreciate the care that goes into preparing and promoting these shows.
WL: If you could curate your dream Wavelength lineup who would play it and why?
Koza, God’s Mom, Dorothea Paas. These are some of our favourite Toronto artists and we love a line up of talented, powerhouse-femme (and varied) sounds!!
WL: Do you have anything you’d like to say/share about Wavelength’s 25th anniversary?
Please keep doing what you are doing because we need community now more than ever!
Friday night’s lineup will feature two floors of amazing guitar bands across a range of 21st century indie music styles.
Essie Watts plays downstairs with garage punk outlaws Priors and the return of Controller. Controller, a band whose infectious dance-punk sound left a mark on the 2000s.
Upstairs features music from Montreal indie folk crooner Alex Nicol, jangly indie pop crew Ducks LTD, and swoony dream-pop band Tallies at St. Anne’s Parish.
All-vinyl DJ sets from the always amazing SadStab.
