Toronto welcomes a brand new venue with the return of Deerhoof!
Deerhoof were once named “the best band in the world” by Pitchfork. From their humble beginnings as an obscure San Francisco noise act in the mid-’90s, they’ve become one of indie music’s most influential bands with their ecstatic and unruly take on pop. The band’s fearless inventiveness has made them one of the most inspiring and important groups making music today.
Wavelength is thrilled to welcome Deerhoof back to Toronto for their first local show in six years — their last visit having been at the Camp Wavelength festival in 2017. The iconic band will be on tour in support of their forthcoming 19th album, Miracle-Level, which was recorded in Winnipeg at No Fun Club studio. 28 years into their career, the album is also the band’s first with lyrics sung entirely in singer/bassist Satomi Matsuzaki’s native tongue, Japanese.
March 31 will also mark one of the first shows at a long-awaited new venue in the city: the TD Music Hall, the 450-capacity club at the Allied Music Centre, part of Massey Hall’s expansion. Having requested local Toronto support from heavy acts with diverse representation, this killer bill is rounded out by all-women, queer punk band Bad Waitress and Indigenous hardcore/metal quintet Indian Giver.
This Special Event is presented in affiliation with the annual Wavelength Winter Festival, curated this year by Daniel Monkman. The remainder of the Winter Festival lineup will take place March 9-11 at 805 Dovercourt, in addition to a previously announced Special Event with Do Make Say Think, March 25 at the Danforth Music Hall.
