The music of Montreal electronica duo Isla Den is as much about mythology as melody, constructing surreal realms to house their rave-refracted pop and exploratory multimedia. Founders Ellie Manning and Mira Reale met while students studying integrated media. Bonding over a shared fascination with electronic music and digital art – the pair found inspiration in each other, and quickly began collaborating.
At the crossroads of blissful and wistful, Isla Den’s music serves as both siren song and beautiful illusion – uncanny but untouchable, a feedback loop of holographic longing. Their music maintains a nuanced mood of emotional ambiguity. Manning’s lyrics hone in on themes of endlessness, distance, and dreams, clouded with auto-tune and swooning over sensuous futurist frameworks fusing underground electronica, trance and technicolor dream pop. The duo has performed across Canada, the USA and Europe, alongside Iglooghost, Mechatok, Hyd, BABii, L.Cie and more.
The duo’s latest release Air Melodies is out now (via wWwindmill Powered).
