Collapsing Opposites is the name used to describe much of the crative output of Vancouver-based artist Ryan McCormick. While it usually refers to music, the name ‘Collapsing Opposites’ has also included prose, sound experiments, speeches, and visual art. The sound of the band has varied over the years, but Ryan’s distinctive voice and recurring lyrical themes have strongly connected its discography. Concepts of space and time, the awkwardness of growing up, analyses of meaning and value, the place of artists within society, and the state of the music scene as it currently exists are all critically explored throughout much of the bands work.
Ryan McCormick (who also played in They Shoot Horses Don’t They and Greenbelt) is joined by Laura Hatfield (Better Friends Than Lovers). on drums, Jarret Evan Sampson (Role Mach, Shipyards) on bass, and Chris-a-riffic (They Shoot Horses Don’t They, Bible Belts) on keyboards.
