Zoo Owl
Toronto-based sci-fi naturalist Bryan Sutherland is better known as Zoo Owl, a mysterious costumed electronic pop musician known for his effects-laden live performances, which Indie 88 called “captivating, psychedelic and prop-filled.” According to Noisey (Vice), he has “gained fame throughout the Toronto nightlife scene with his experimental performances and iconic goggles,” such as the Chinatown buffet rave he threw for the release of his debut album Hollow (2014). Hollow was met with critical acclaim, receiving praise from the likes of Now Magazine (who named it “Album of the Week), Exclaim, Chart Attack, Weird Canada, Silent Shout, and others. After the release, Sutherland spent three months travelling around BC with a backpack full of field recording equipment, capturing the sights and sounds of the ancient woods and misty coasts. He has returned to Toronto with a renewed agenda to bring the woods to the urban landscape, through different forms of new media, electronics, and custom props.
